Medicinal Garden Planning & Exciting Announcements!
Welcome back to The Honeystead! As the snow blankets our garden, it's the perfect time to sit back, sip some herbal tea, and plan for the 2025 garden season. In my last video, I shared some missteps from my previous gardening attempts, like not using cardboard or mesh under my raised beds. Your feedback has inspired some new ideas, and I'm excited to share them with you.
Revamping the Garden
I've decided to lean into a mulch system for my garden, incorporating cardboard and compost layers. This no-till method is cost-effective and aligns with my barefoot gardening style. I'll be reusing materials I already have, focusing on heavy mulch to keep weeds in check. For my raised beds, I'm contemplating whether to invest in aluminum ones or stick with what I have.
Expanding with Medicinal Seeds
One of my goals this year is to grow more medicinal herbs and possibly sell seed kits. I've been collaborating with Survival Garden Seeds to create a medicinal seed kit, which includes a variety of herbs beneficial for a home apothecary. Here's a peek at some of the herbs I'm excited to grow:
- Cayenne Pepper: Great for congestion and can be used in cooking or as a salve for pain relief.
- Chamomile: Known for its calming effects, it's perfect for teas and soothing tired eyes.
- Echinacea: A beautiful immune stimulant, great for tinctures and teas.
- Holy Basil: An adaptogen that helps balance the body, lovely in sun-infused teas.
- Black Cumin: Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, often used with honey.
More Herbs to Explore
Some other herbs I'm cultivating include calendula, catnip, motherwort, and marshmallow. Each has unique properties that make them invaluable in herbal medicine. For instance, calendula is excellent for skin care, while motherwort supports cardiovascular health.
Exciting Announcements
I'm thrilled to announce that my Bee Attuned Mushroom Blend is now available. This blend, crafted with whole-fruiting body mushrooms, is designed to boost health and vitality.
I'm also in the final stages of writing my book, set to release in June. It's an exhilarating journey, and I can't wait to share it with you. If you're eager to learn more about herbalism, check out The Home Apothecary - Enhanced Edition course for a comprehensive guide.
Community and Workshops
In collaboration with a local vineyard, we're launching a new venture called Hands of the Earth. It's a community-focused initiative offering workshops and a platform for others to share their knowledge. Our open house is on February 21st, and we invite you to join us in creating a space for learning and growth.
